While the mountain range running north and south is longer and wider than the east to west range, these moutains are lower and allow greater access to the area. This North to South area has more roads and villages. Although the forest near the Romania and Ukraine borders are unspoiled ancient old growth forest, and the border area is somewhat uninhabited.
